“Well, consider what Sherlock Holmes would say,” Rebecca said.
“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”
“Luck? Chance? Genetic fiddling? Aliens?”
“Luck and chance seem to be impossible, as does genetic fiddling. So, aliens?”
Rebecca snorted. “Didn’t you have a religious upbringing, Frank? You missed the most obvious reason.”
“What, divine intervention?”
Rebecca rolled her eyes and sighed deeply. “Demonic influence.”
“Rubbish!”
<Careful now,> Hamash said.
“Well, I did say it was humorous, didn’t I?”
“Okay, let’s say for a moment it’s demonic influence. What kind of demon are we talking about here? Do I need to call an exorcist? I’m fairly sure Mr. Fong has contacts at The Vatican.”
Rebecca laughed. “You so silly. While I may have a potty mouth, I can’t spin my head 360 degrees, and I only projectile vomit when I’m incredibly sick.”
Frank considered her for a minute. “Okay, I give up. I’ve got no idea. What kind of demonic influence are we talking about?”
“A succubus.”
“A succubus.”
“Yes. It’s the only thing that makes sense.”
